Creation without connection to nature is just manufacturing; but when I opened my mind to the immensity of the wonders around me. It was only then that I could see the Great Conduit that connects us all. In attempting to control it, we might as well have been tring to divert a river with our hands.

The atmosphere of Kaladesh is saturated with Æther due to its greater proximity to the boundaries of the Blind Eternities: the sky is literally closer to the edge of the universe! Æther literally rains down to the earth below, influencing the ecosystem to form similar swirling and twisting patterns.

Beyond the chaos of Ghirapur lies a vibrant world where aether flows through nature.

Ghirapur was founded in the aftermath of the War of Eleven as a neutral ground between feuding principalities... are the Consulate's eleven from each of these factions? Guess the 11 might have been represented by the five mana-colours, five more opposite-colour pairs, and a colourless one.
